Kevin Sutherland won for the first time on PGA TOUR Champions, finishing at 15-under to win the Charles Schwab Cup Championship by one over Vijay Singh and Lee Janzen. With the win, Sutherland also won the Charles Schwab Cup, breaking the three-year winning streak by Bernhard Langer, who finished the tournament T12 and was second in the final standings.

Though Langer was nine shots off the lead entering the final round, he birdied seven of his first 11 holes Sunday to put pressure on the Schwab Cup hopefuls. Playing 10 groups ahead of Sutherland, Langer cooled off and was even-par over his last seven holes, and he settled for a final-round 64 and a 10-under total. That left the door open for Sutherland, who entered the tournament No. 5 in the standings and would win the Charles Schwab Cup if he won the tournament, regardless of how the other players fared. Kevin Sutherland, who was T3 and two shots off the pace through two rounds, shot 4-under 32 on the front nine and was tied for the lead at 14-under. He broke the tie with a birdie on No. 16, which ended up being the tournament- and Cup-clinching difference. He played his last 46 holes bogey-free, and he became just the third player to win the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the Charles Schwab Cup in the same season.
